Orange Class Assembly
Written by Mrs Symes
Wednesday, 07 March 2012 16:30

Orange Class had their Class Assembly on Wednesday 8th February – an assembly they had planned and written themselves.  The children decided what they wanted to talk about and then wrote the words themselves.  The Assembly took everyone on a journey through the year, as Emilia explained, giving the children the chance to talk about lots of different activities, ranging from jobs for children in Victorian times to the suitability of wearing green on television as a weather forecaster – luckily Shane was able to explain the problem!  It came bang up to date, though, with a Chawton School Rap – it rocked the hall!  Well done Orange Class and here’s to the next term and a half of learning…

Chawton Young Voices at the O2, London

A massive well done to the Young Voices Choir, who sang at the O2 on Monday 5th March.  The 30 children, accompanied by Mrs Symes, Mrs Gates, Mrs Brown and Mrs Spiegal, left school at 11.30am and took the coach to London.  After eating lunch on the coach, they caught their first glimpse of the O2 and the excitement level rose – again!  On entering the O2 and realising how amazing their seats were – SO close to the stage and with a clear view of where their parents and family would be sitting later to watch them – the children were visibly excited.  However, they were incredibly well-behaved, not only throughout the 2 and a half hour rehearsal, but through the 2 hour performance itself.  The show was awesome, with the Chawton Young Voices adding their weight to the massed choir of 8,000 children.  Singing alongside extremely talented musicians and singers, including Connie Talbot, the High Kings (an Irish folk band), Randolph Matthews (a singer who combines soul, jazz and ethnic beat box) and a surprise appearance by Beverly Knight, the children gave it their all – everyone rocked and danced their hearts out!  By the end of the evening the children were exhausted but had had a fantastic night and so too, we are told, did the audience.  Young Voices of Chawton have left their mark on the O2 and have many wonderful memories of the event to look back on.  Young Voices you rock!

If you would like to see our amazing performance then visit the Young Voices website -www.youngvoices.co.uk and click on the YVTV icon. Our video is Young Voices at the O2 - Pop Medley 5th March 2012. It is fantastic!!

World Book Day 2012

World Book Day 2012 was a great success! A big thank you to all the children for taking part, dressing up as favourite book characters. Also to all the parents who put so much thought and effort into the costumes.

The children all got in to the spirit of the day by sharing different books and voting for a class favourite. This was shared at the end of the week during Achievement Assembly.

The teachers also took part in the fun by dressing up as characters from the popular story ‘Charlie Cooks Favourite Book’ by Julia Donaldson!
